Welcome to year 1's class page
What is the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check?
Year 1 are very proud of our allotment plot. We have worked well as a team to plant, de-slug and weed our little plot
Farmer Nick picked us up in his tractor. on his farmer he found a grass snake. We had to be very quiet so we didn't scare it.
We made dens out of anything we could find. Bob thought it was very cosy.
We had to get into the dens we had made. For some of us it was a squash and a squeeze.
Liz showed us how to pond dip.
We love golden time, and tap shoes!
We're going on a snail hunt...we're going to catch a big one!
Our very own Supervet made sure that Spike was safe and well in the sunshine.
Superhero allotmenteers. Thank you Toby who took most of the photos. Even Spike came to help!
We were visited by Bananaman on Wednesday! He is a nine year old boy called Eric...until he eats a banana, then he turns into Bananaman. He is as strong as 20 big men and he is ALWAYS ready for action!
We made popcorn and watched the movie The Incredibles, to start our literacy work on Superheroes.
We have dug over the soil. Planted our little apple tree. Found a ladybird (and some HUGE worms). Thank you Neve for being our photographer.
We planted some seeds. When they are are plants we will put them in our allotment.
We measured our allotment. We found a very smelly onion.
We had a Sport Relief circuit around the playground. We enjoyed spending time and being encouraged by our Year 5 buddies.
EVERY day we do our "5 a day" exercises!
Fantastic acting out of our Traditional Tale of Anancy and Mr Dry-Bone. Well done Isobel,Toby and Warren, great team work.
The people from Tesco came to visit. They helped us to decorate some Easter eggs and we talked about hot cross buns.
We have heard a story about a Chinese village that made a dragon to scare away a dinosaur. We have been using paper mache to make our own characters from the story.
Can you spot Mrs Furniss?
Lots of unifix in our maths lessons-learning about non-standard measure.
We have played tag rugby...
We have been having fun reading and learning humorous poems.
We have 5 chicks ,so far. Jenny,Jenny, Nigel, Rachel and Clare!
Farmer Nick came back to shine a bright torch into each egg. If the air sac had got larger there MIGHT be a chick in the egg. 10 of our eggs have large air sacks so we could have 10 chicks in two weeks time...
Farmer Nick came to see us. He gave us some chicken eggs to incubate.
We have been learning about instructions, with the help of a naughty pigeon! We played Simon Says, we have followed written instructions and verbal instructions
We have been thinking about Materials and what different objects are made of. We sorted lots of different objects and went on a Material hunt around the school. We used the i-pads to take the photos on our walk!
We have been using "Dangerous PE equipment"...The mats! We can safely get them out and put them away ourselves. We have stretched before our lessons. We can now do a pencil AND a teddy bear roll...we even had a competition who could do the most!
ALSO lots of maths, painting and fun!
Our friend George wrote to us. We wrote him a letter and we posted it...an ugly sister came with us!
We made some biscuits and then we iced them.
Our Christmas production.
We read words and put them in the right order.
We tasted natural yoghurt...mmmmmmmmm
We have had such a busy term... Here are a few of our photos.
Today we were measuring using non standard measure
We are learning our alphabet. We sing it in lots of different ways.
Give us a test... what letter comes after x? What letter is before c?
On Wednesday Chris from the Lifeboat Association came to talk to us about staying safe on the beach. Thomas -Minh dressed up as a life guard!
On Monday we made some animals made out of bread. Can you guess what animals they are?
On Friday we walked to St Mary's Church to celebrate our Harvest Festival. All the classes recited a poem. We recited 3 verses of the Jumblies!
We couldn't do PE in the hall because of the School Photographer. We played tag rugby instead!
We went to Puxton Park on School Milk Day. We Saw the cows and the milking parlour and LOTS of other things...
We brought in our teddies to help us with our learning. We are reading a book about a little girl called Trixie who looses her favourite cuddly toy.
Our harvest around the school welly walk.
We went to Farmer Nick's Farm. We travelled in his trailer! We went into his granary and saw all the wheat. We drove around Wrington (really fast).
We saw the heifers, and one bull!
Farmer Nick let us play in the woods!
On Tuesday we estimated how long our dough worms were. We then had to make worms that were...more than 10 BUT less than 15, or more than 5 BUT less than 10.
On Monday made long "snakes" out of unifix. We had to read a number card then make a "snake " out of that number of cubes.
On Tuesday evening Bob went to an art exhibition called Dismaland in Weston-Super-Mare.
He had to queue for a long time.
Bob met a really nice security man. Mrs Langan met a grumpy security man...who took her pen!
Bob saw lots of amazing art work.
Was this Geraldine the Giraffe?
Bob...his humble beginnings.
He went on to enjoy the beach in Weston-super-Mare and the libaray in Clevedon.
I wonder what he will do this weekend?
Here are some questions that you could ask your child whilst reading with them.
We have been very busy in our first week. Team building, exploring, playing with wild animals AND mini beasts!
