24th and 25th School Closure Letter - due to extreme heat

I am writing to inform you that following the issue of a red weather warning for extreme heat by the Met office, and after careful consideration of the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff we have made the decision to close the school on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June.

A red warning is the highest level of weather alert issued by the Met office and indicates there is significant risk to life and serious disruption. Currently warnings have forecast temperatures for our local area to reach 37 Celsius on Wednesday and up to 39 Celsius on Thursday, with the highest temperatures predicted during the school day. The UK Health Protection Authority has also issued a Red Warning indicating significant risk to health even in the healthy population. So, after careful consideration and with the strong advice from our Trust (please see the attached letter from Gary Lewis CEO), we have made the decision that unfortunately we are not able to provide sufficient mitigation within our school to ensure that pupils and staff remain safe in such extreme temperatures.
