Newsletter 5

Advent is upon us and there are signs of Christmas preparations popping up around the school. The children in KS1 are busy learning their lines for the Christmas nativity. In KS2, carols are being rehearsed ahead of our annual carol service. Whilst the excitement of Christmas is in the air, and there will be lots of fun to be had, the focus on learning is still very much the priority of every day, and will be right up until we break for the Christmas holidays. Routine, high expectations and structure are essential for our young people to manage this exciting period so please help us by maintaining high expectations, including with uniform and punctuality. We appreciate your support.
We look forward to seeing you all at the PTA Christmas warmer, this Friday (straight after school). Mrs Woollven
ATTENDANCE

Attendance levels continue to be a serious concern for the school, with our overall attendance being lower than both the National and Local Authority averages. Since the start of school year there have been 478 lost school days, with 274 recorded as illness. We have also recorded approximately 10% of the school late on a daily basis (this is excluding the challenges faced by everyone on Monday morning). I will be writing to parents this week, to highlight if your child is regularly arriving late. We ask that you speak to your child’s class teacher, or contact the school office for a meeting with our Learning Mentor, if you are experiencing any problems with getting your child into school, every day and on time.

As a reminder, the school day runs:
- Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 pupils (Year R, 1 and 2) from 8:50am and ends at 3:20pm.
- Key Stage 2 pupils (Years 3,4,5 and 6) from 8:40am and ends at 3:10pm
The register for the first session will be taken at 8:40 am (for Key Stage 2) and 8:50 am (for Reception and Key Stage 1). Pupils arriving after 8:45 in KS2 and 8:55 in KS1 will be marked as late (L) – which still counts as present.
If a pupil arrives after the close of registration, 8:55 am for KS2 and 9:05 am for Reception and KS1, they will be marked with the unauthorised absence code ‘Late after registers close’ for the morning session.
