Welcome to Year 4

It has been wonderful to welcome the children into Year 4 and to see how quickly they have settled into their new routines. We have an exciting year ahead and are really looking forward to learning together.

Our Year 4 Team

Our Year 4 team includes Mr Maddocks, Mrs Baker and Mrs Baird, with additional support from Miss Harris, Mrs McDermott, Nathan, Paula and Catherine from the Visual Support Team.

PE

PE takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child has a complete PE kit in school so that they are able to take part fully in lessons.

Reading at Home

Regular reading at home is extremely important in Year 4. Reading frequently helps children to develop their fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, as well as building their knowledge and understanding across the wider curriculum.

Please encourage your child to read regularly at home and, where possible, spend some time talking to them about what they have read. Reading records should be brought into school each Monday morning so that we can check and celebrate the children's home reading.

Homework and Times Tables

Our regular home learning consists primarily of reading and multiplication-table practice.

Children should practise their multiplication tables using Times Tables Rock Stars at least three times each week. Quick and accurate recall of multiplication facts is particularly important during Year 4 and will help children prepare for the statutory Multiplication Tables Check later in the year.

Regular home reading and multiplication practice are two of the most valuable ways you can support your child's progress in English and mathematics.

Our Curriculum and Trips

We have lots to look forward to across the Year 4 curriculum, with learning across English, mathematics, science, history, geography and the wider curriculum.

We will be visiting the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon on 19 October, supporting our learning about the Romans. We are also planning a further curriculum visit in the spring term, with Slimbridge or Westhay currently being considered.
