Dear parents and carers,
I hope you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. The new school year is fast approaching so I wanted to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome back to families returning after the summer holidays, and to those new families joining us this year, welcome to Churchill CE Primary School. In this letter I have included some exciting news about our school’s 200th anniversary as well as a few key reminders.
The end of the school year is in sight and with just 2 school days to go, we are focusing our attention on celebration services and wishing our super Year 6 pupils a fond farewell and good luck for the future.
It has certainly been a hot few days! Thankfully it was a little cooler today and the children were able to be out enjoying the field, once again.
Firstly, apologies for the slightly shorter than normal newsletter. We are experiencing some technical problems with our IT server so I have not been able to access a lot of the information. As soon as the system is back up and running, the office team will send out a slightly updated version with our clubs and community news included.
Last week, we saw our super Year 6 class sitting their SATs tests. The whole class reflected our rules for life and showed fantastic resilience, responsibility, readiness and respect for themselves and all their classmates. Thank you to all of the school team, members of the governing body and to families for supporting the children to have such a positive SATs experience. The young people should feel incredibly proud of themselves.
Welcome back, I hope you had a relaxing Easter break.
Term 5 is a short term but nevertheless a busy one, with school trips, spring music concert (see information below), bikeability for Year 5, Year 6 SATs and our Year 1 class service and Tea @ 3.
It is hard to believe that we have just one more week and we will be breaking up for the Easter holidays. Term 4 has been really busy, but there has been so much to celebrate. Our success in the Rotary competitions continues, with three of our pupils being awarded the top prices in the Young Musician competition. We have also had great success with our netball and girls’ football teams as they performed brilliantly in their matches and have now progressed on to the regional stages of their competitions.
The term has started with some lovely bright sunshine and the children have had their first opportunity, of the year, to play on the main school field. We really are very fortunate to have such super grounds for them to enjoy.
This term has flown by! The children have been really busy showcasing their learning in their spring assessments as well as enjoying trips to the SS Great Britain (for year 2), Design and Technology days, visits from Farmlink and a trip to Life Skills (for year 6). This week, pupils from years 5 and 6 are taking part in the North Somerset school’s swimming gala. We wish them all the best of luck.
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a relaxing and fun filled Christmas holiday. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all the children back to school tomorrow, ready for an exciting term of learning.
On this, the last day of term, our school is a festive scene of Christmas jumpers and outfits. There was much excitement as the children looked forward to their special Christmas lunch and final whole school service.
This week, we are looking forward to our first round of parents’ meetings. It is great to see that almost all families have signed up to meet with their child’s class teachers. These opportunities to talk about how your child is learning are really important. Research shows that when parents/carers work in partnership with the school, to support their child’s learning, the child makes additional progress across the year.
