Dreams really can come true!

The Darkest Dark is a children's story book about a little boy who is afraid of the dark. Little Chris has an active imagination- he dreams about being an astronaut, exploring far off planets and hunting for aliens. But young Chris is terrified of the dark and won't settle in his own room at night for fear of aliens and deep dark depths of the night. On the night that he and his family watch the televised moon landings of Apollo 11, Chris realises that in space there is a type of darkness much darker than he is used to in his own bedroom. That is when he decides he wants to be an astronaut, not just dream about them!

Rosa Parks

The children learned about this remarkable woman who helped changed the lives of millions of African Americans and the history of her country.

All people should be treated equally, regardless of where they come from, which religion they follow or language they speak. However, today this isn't always the case and many groups around the world still suffer as a result of prejudices or discrimination.

Thankfully, there are some amazing people like Rosa Parks who have done incredible things to fight for equality. She is known for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in 1955.

Stephen Hawking

The children learned about this remarkable and inspirational scientist who made a huge difference to the world by solving some of the biggest mysteries of the universe and helping ordinary people to understand science.

Stephen studied and worked at two of the world's most famous universities, Oxford and Cambridge. He said his goal was to have a complete understanding of the Universe.

Sadly, when he was 21, Stephen developed motor neurone disease and was told he only had two years to live. Nevertheless, he carried on with his work but after a few years couldn't walk or talk and needed a special wheelchair. In the end he lived longer than anyone expected.......over fifty years longer!

'Remember to look up at the sky, and not down at your feet. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed. It matters that you don't give up'
