D and T Day

Monday 5th February 2024

Mechanisms- wheels and axles

We first investigated moving vehicles and explored how they moved. We were set a task to learn new vocabulary and identify the parts on our vehicles.

We are amazing wheel and axle makers!

We watched some short videos that explained new learning and vocabulary about wheels and axles. We then had a go at making our own sets and attaching them to a chassis.

In the afternoon, we then added detail to our moving vehicles. We painted, did some gluing, joining, cutting and sticking.

Finally, at the end of the afternoon, we created a class gallery of amazing work. We looked at the Reception and Year 1 D and T galleries too and evaluated their work.

ART

Collage Unit

In art, we are experimenting with different techniques and responding to the work of artists like Henri Matisse.

We looked at his work 'The Snail' and used the technique of tearing papers and arranging them by overlapping.

We used the primary colours and created some super work. See if you agree.

Second 500 Reading Points Achieved

At the end of December, Year 2 achieved their second 500 points for reading regularly at home. Great reading everyone!

The children have voted for their special treat to have at the beginning of January............a physical activity session using balls!
