Sports Premium

PE and sport premium for primary schools

The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money. Schools receiving PE and sports premium funding must publish details of the way in which PE and sports premium funding is spent.

At Churchill Primary School, we believe in the importance of encouraging pupils to lead a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils. However, we acknowledge our responsibility for providing high-quality learning for all children and we are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs in order to enable them to become the best they can be in sport.

Sport Premium funding is vital to this process and we approach it through the following principles:

  •  ensuring that ‘Quality First’ teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all the pupils;
  • ensuring that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, including ensuring the needs of pupils are adequately assessed and addressed;
  •  allocating the funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified;
  • ensuring the progress of pupils is rigorously monitored and reviewed as part of the school’s assessment cycle;
  • linking performance management and whole school development targets to the achievement of these groups of pupils;
