Term 5

Welcome to Term 5!

Our Science learning for this term is all about PLANTS

We dissected a runner bean seed to see what was inside. Can you remember which part is the seed coat? Which is the food store? Where is the baby plant?

Why are all of these important?

ENGLISH

Our text for this term is The Minpins by Roald Dahl. (see the links below if you'd like to hear an audio recording of the story).

There is a character in the story called The Spittler. You never get to see a picture of this creature, but there are many clues in the text about what he looks like. We became reading detectives, found the information in the text and then drew a picture of what we thought he looked like using this information. Each picture had to have:

  • huge, black and hairy back legs
  • 2 gigantic nose holes
  • fire in his belly
  • head shaped like a crocodile's
  • rows and rows of sharp teeth
  • lots of orange and red smoke coming out of his nose.

Music Day!

We enjoyed exploring how to compose music using music technology during Music Day.  We looked at repeating percussion rhythms and how to create a simple tune over the top.  We were very proud of our compositions!

Over the next few weeks, we are going to develop our skills at using this technology to compose music to describe an animal.
